Leaders gathered at the OFTEC 2022 conference to call on support from the UK government. The liquid fuel heating industry seeks action for the UK’s off-grid homes and businesses to have reasonable and practical decarbonised renewable fuel solutions.
The trade association attending the OFTEC 2022 conference at the Birmingham NEC in partnership with InstallerShow also spoke with industry workers. Over the three-day exhibition, manufacturers, technicians and industry professionals met to discuss the obstacles facing the off-grid sector.s
Transitioning to renewable fuel
OFTEC Chairman Nick Hawkins opened the conference and familiarised the audience with speakers from the leadership teams at OFTEC, UKIFDA and My Home Farm. The event concentred primarily on the industry’s duty to technology-neutral off-grid decarbonisation.
Exhibition-goers were informed about the critical role of renewable fuels in supporting hard-to-treat homes. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) also received an update with the renewable liquid fuel now available in over 100 properties fuelled initially by kerosene.
A recent report from UKIFDA on the sustainability and availability of HVO found that emissions fell by 88% when converting an existing oil heating system to fossil-free fuel.
The message is clear!
Spokespeople and industry heads were united in their pledge to deliver renewable fuels to oil-heating homes across the UK. They also called for the government to implement integral policies to help accelerate this industry roadmap over the next few years.
Head of public affairs at OFTEC, Malcolm Farrow, stated, “The message from the industry at our conference was loud and clear. We’ve demonstrated that HVO is a practical and realistic solution for off-grid decarbonisation with fuel distributors, technicians and existing supply chains ready and waiting to deliver it to homes and businesses across the UK.
